The Extent of Readiness of Jordanian Commercial Banks to Implement the Requirements of Basel III: A Field Study
Abstract
The study aimed to find out the extent of the Jordanian commercial banks ’readiness to apply the Basel 3 requirements to face financial crises, in order to avoid the negative effects of the risks that Jordanian banks may be exposed to as a result of the successive financial crises that have hit global economies, the most important of which is the banks as an important part of the financial system.
The study population consisted of the commercial banks registered in the Amman Stock Exchange for the year 2020, which numbered (23 banks). For the purpose of achieving the objectives of the study, the researchers developed a questionnaire and distributed it to all the study sample members (bank managers), who numbered 126 managers. The results showed that Jordanian commercial banks are prepared to comply with Basel III requirements in order to avoid the risks of future financial crises. The study also showed that stakeholders in Jordanian commercial banks have extensive knowledge of Basel 3.
