The Role of Accountability in Reducing Administrative Corruption: A Field Study by Application on the Electricity and Energy Sector in Egypt
Abstract
The study aimed to estimate the degree of application of administrative accountability to administrative corruption in the electricity and energy sector in Egypt. The study population consisted of workers in the mentioned sector and from various administrative levels. The number of community members reached (1964) elements, while the study sample is a random sample of (322) elements.
In order to achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire consisting of (25) items was built. The study reached several results, the most important of which are: the lack of accountability in the sector under study, and the weakness of mechanisms to reduce administrative corruption as a result of the lack of balance of power with responsibility and the weak effectiveness of the supervisory authorities, as well as the weak participation of citizens in decision-making. Related to the sector under study.
The study recommended the development of regulations and legislation to combat corruption, and the commitment of regulatory bodies to submit periodic performance reports to the higher authorities with clarity and accuracy, as well as activating accountability mechanisms in the electricity and energy sector in Egypt, which enhances mechanisms to reduce corruption.
