Abstract

The existence of state-owned enterprises is a common feature among different countries of the world, as these companies are the state’s tool to control the strategic and vital areas in them. These institutions usually suffer from many problems that negatively affect their performance.
This study aims to review the efforts of some countries in restructuring state-owned enterprises. The study focuses on the organizational and administrative mechanisms in restructuring because of their direct and indirect impact on the performance of these institutions.
The study dealt with, consolidation, governance, and expanding the ownership base through privatization and listing on the stock exchange. As the most prominent restructuring, organizational and administrative mechanisms used internationally.
Then the study concluded that it is possible to benefit from some international experiences in the Egyptian case to avoid falling into some of the problems faced by countries that restructured their state-owned enterprises.
